Welcome to Leavenworth, WA!
Leavenworth is an interesting place - once you reach this quaint town, it's like you've walked into a European village.

Settled in the Cascade mountains, you are surrounded by fresh air and an abundance of pine trees (I wouldn't be surprised if there were any Yeti or Bigfoot sightings).

My husband and I made the 2-hr trip to stay at the POST HOTEL (will be posting about this gorgeous place next week) and mainly to relax because it’s a kids-free weekend.

LeavenwoRth Reindeer Farm

This was one of the coolest things we've done here in Leavenworth. We've been here several times in the past but never heard about this place until I watched a local show featuring them.

The reindeers were smaller than I thought but their antlers were just as I had imagined. Their stature, though, is not meant to be overlooked as they are strong animals (you can feel their power as you're feeding them). And - get this - the host’s name is “Hans Christian Anderson” like the famous author - best known for stories you’ve heard of (i.e. The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, etc.)!

I come in peace!
Admission is $20/person over 3 years old. Tours last about 30 minutes and you will need to be sure you didn't have any contact with sheep or goats prior to the visit because they carry a spore that’s dangerous (and may be deadly) to the reindeer.  I thought this was a little strange but, hey, maybe some people are sheep herders or have goat farms or something...

Christmas Until February

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree
It was quite the Christmas-y winter wonderland that we've never experienced of Leavenworth before. Years prior, we were never able to book a room during the holiday season for their famous Christmas tree lighting because everyone and their moms were there. So, this was a magical sight.

The lights and decor are up until around Valentines Day so, if you're interested in checking out all the Christmas goodness, make your way over now!

Good food, good service!
With COVID, many places were closed or take-out only, so we just decided to walk around and see what place was open for outdoor dining and, lo and behold, we came upon The Rhein Haus restaurant! Located in the middle of their town square, the place seemed lively despite the emptiness of the surrounding areas. Service was great and the staff were really nice.

Leavenworth trip, Part 1  of 2

I hope you're able to visit this Bavarian village someday - it may be a bit different than most getaways you've probably been to. If not, then it's another place to add to your excursions.
